About the fruit trees, new trees and a bush, an unidentified flower…

Our plum tree had last year (it was the first whole year for the tree in the garden) only one plum fruit, this year it has six! And what’s more, last year it had well over a hundred flowers, this year not many more than 20. Cool! 🙂

In July our grafted cherry tree started to grow a branch on its on. After that it has grown three more branches. What great balancing! 😉

The tree has grown further its ‘original’ branches as well.

A cherry bush now, too, we planted it next to the cherry tree last week.

And a pear tree, we planted it last week as well.

EDIT: This could be gladiolus, miekkalilja in Finnish… I suddenly remembered this name, and it sure looked like gladiolus when I searched it. 🙂

An unidentified flower. – Yet another new flower for this autumn and we have no idea what this could be called. I tried to google it a bit, but no luck with that. It’s a fairly big plant, big flowers. We knew that something was planted in this spot, but didn’t believe that anything would bloom here this year.

And another new tree. We planted this aspen tree the other day.

The autumn colour of the aspen trees is always so enchanting, bright, brilliant… And the sound of the aspen leaves quaking in the wind is lovely.

Populus tremula erecta is this tree.

I got a bit carried away with the colours… Well, autumn is once a year. 😉

Summer flowers, little friends, eating brain mushrooms…

Finally we have had the rain that the garden, nature and we people needed… now we have had two rainy days, the first one last week after that blog post of mine, and today is the second rainy day. The cooler air also returned for a day or two last week – especially Friday was a ridiculously cold day… Now it’s been all summery again.

One narcissus or daffodil flower was a home for this little guy for two days. This spider really stayed here for two days, but when the cold Friday came, he was presumably off to some warmer place. 🙂

Some rockfoil flowers in our garden, not many, but they are beauties.

Our plum tree has been blooming, now the flowers have already started to disappear. Last year the tree was in bloom already on May 23rd, and there was well over a hundred flowers, but this year… I actually didn’t count them, but I think 20 flowers (or fewer?), definitely not many more than 20… so let’s see what happens… 🙂

High up…

These brainy friends… highly toxic friends… We got some brain mushrooms from Eastern Finland. Brain mushroom, gyromitra esculenta, false morel… These are real delicacies in Finland. Quite unique taste! But very dangerous, deadly, before boiling them at least two times. And most of the poison disappears during the boiling – up in the air, so one has to make sure that the house is ventilated well – we, for example, opened a door and two windows. We ate the first part of our brain mushrooms – cooked them with just cream and a bit of salt, and ate them with potatoes. Excellent food! We still have those mushrooms for two meals in the freezer. In Finnish this brain mushroom is called korvasieni – ear mushroom. 🙂

Okay, I never knew until now that we have this fairly tiny bird cherry tree in the back of our garden. I just found it. And I found it blooming! It’s in a spot where, umm… many different things grow. So, yeah, we still have that sort of spots in our garden. 😀

Good morning! Forget-me-nots in the back of our garden again, by the ditch… My favourite small flowers!

In German, Spanish and English the name of the flower means the same: Vergissmeinnicht – nomeolvides – forget-me-not. But in Finnish the name is lemmikki, literally pet or darling, and the name can also be understood: “a flower of love“. 🙂

A plum fruit in the garden, autumn thoughts coming, too

One delightful plum fruit in our garden! Our plum tree really has grown and ripened one fruit this year. Well done, wonderfully happened, as this is the first whole year of the tree in our garden. It did have more than hundred flowers in spring, but I was hoping to get only two fruits, because that’s how it goes in the early years of the fruit tree’s life… Yeah well, I was actually hoping to get “any fruit”, so one purple fruit in the tree is a marvel. It looks quite amazing! 😀

This is even more amazing, because we already thought, at one point, that also this fruit had gone – one day I just couldn’t find it in the tree. I said that to my boyfriend, and he also searched the tree, and said that he couldn’t find the fruit either. What are we? A couple of morons? 😀

All of a sudden then, the fruit was there again, on another day… And it still grew bigger. Then suddenly it started to change colour from green to purple, and once it had started to do it, the colour change happened very quickly.

Wow, oh dear oh dear, I’m grateful! 🙂

So hey! It’s already September! But I’m actually quite content with the fact – the autumn may begin. 🙂 And in Owlnature, too. I was away from here for a while, because I had the moving in and out project, or an ordeal, as it turned out to be, a bit. 😀 – Too big closets to store your rubbish there, years of dirt in some spots in one’s student apartment, and so on, but it’s all over now. 🙂 But I do feel that I should have started, everything, that I’ve been doing now, and that I’m about to, hopefully, do next, already a year ago… Buuut enough of this right now, maybe a bit of reminiscing the old things later, again, and we have to rearrange this whole country home of ours here, too, every room, now. Aaand I still have some flower pics and some other pics, too, from August, that I’ll reminisce here in my blog a bit. And for this autumn I indeed have some plans, other than cleaning the house and everything, too, but let’s see what happens – just taking things easy… but very, very, seriously… ;D – And I can say that it all comes down to the fact that I want to grow mentally and I want to learn to do new things, too. And no matter how diminutive the new things are, it’s always an adventure. – Let us not destroy our inner child!

About the plum tree and taking care of it

Our plum tree today. My first blog post about the tree here.

The flowers disappeared quickly and our tiny tree really started to grow some fruits! At least started, and some of the diminutive green fruits have already grown bigger. But still a lot of waiting, though… The plums in this tree should not be that big when they are ripe, but they should be very blue.

So, still hoping to get the two plum fruits that I’m dreaming of this year… 😉

And about taking care of this tree:

The net is keeping our forest rabbit away, although we have our lettuces growing in open ground, and the bunny hasn’t eaten them, but still… And we had a tar moat made out of a plastic container around the trunk of the tree, on the ground, to keep the ants away. That was really necessary and worked very well!

And the aphids, we keep them away with the mixture of water and the traditional Finnish washing liquid, pine soap, called Mäntysuopa – works like a charm! 🙂

Now just waiting what happens to the tiny green fruits…

Plum tree in bloom

Our plum tree is in bloom. We planted this tree last spring. Last summer it had two flowers, but no fruits. I was humbly thinking that we wouldn’t have any plum flowers this year – this tree probably doesn’t like it here, in our garden, and won’t thrive. 🙂

On Saturday I finally tried to count the flowers and buds the tree has… there was over a hundred opened flowers and several dozen flower buds. This is a self-pollinating tree. It would be great to have two plum fruits this year! 🙂

The wind was blowing nicely…. But it’s been a very warm day.

When I first saw all the flower buds I could hardly believe what I was seeing. 🙂 So, let’s wait and see what happens when the flowers disappear…
